FA Cup Final: Chelsea beat Liverpool to win title

Chelsea won their first trophy of the season by defeating Liverpool 2-1 at the Wembley stadium on Saturday to clinch their seventh FA Cup title.

At the end of the first half the blues were leading through an 11th minute strike from Ramires. Didier Drogba got the second goal seven minutes into the second half. The goal now makes him the first man to score in four FA Cup finals.

Liverpool got back into the game after Andrew Carroll came from the bench to score in the 64th minute.

Cech put up a wonderful performance to deny Liverpool the chance to equalize. In the 81st minute of the game, Cech made an impressive point blank save from Andy Carroll.

Roberto Di Matteo has now become one of a select group to win the cup as both a player and manager of the same club. Speaking in a report after the victory, he said:

"It's quite a unique situation to be able to win the Cup as a player and then coach the team to win it. I feel honoured to have had this chance.

"I'm very happy for players because we've been heavily criticized this season and we've got the trophy and have the chance for another one. It's been a difficult season but the players have made the club proud. It's been hard work but we came through it."
