Ruud Van Nistelrooy announces retirement


Former Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy on Monday announced his retirement from professional football after he helped Malaga secure their  first ever top-four finish which will see them play in the Champions League next season for the first time in their history.
The 35-year-old Netherlands striker made 70 international appearances, scoring 35 goals. In his 219 official appearances for Manchester United he scored 150 goals. He also won two La Liga titles with Real Madrid and with 56 goals, he is currently the second all-time highest goal scorer in the Champions League.

Atletico Madrid wins Europa League title


In the all Spanish Europa finals, Atletico Madrid defeated Athletic Bilbao 3-0 to win the UEFA Europa League trophy at the National Arena in Bucharest on Wednesday.

Falcao increased his goal tally to twelve in the Europa League this season scoring the first two goals for Atletico in the 7th and 34th minute of the game while Diego got the third five minutes to the end of the game.

Falcao's 11th and 12th goals of the tournament not only earned him the top scorer prize ahead of Schalke's Klaas Jan Huntelaar but took his all-time record in the competition to 29 in 29 games.
The trophy now makes it Atletico’s  second in three years

Yaya wants to end career at Barca


Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has reiterated his desire to end his career back at former club Barcelona. The Côte d'Ivoire international spent three years at Barça before joining City for a fee in the region of £24m in 2010.
The 28-year-old speaking to Spanish radio station RACI said: 

Puyol: I want to retire on the pitch


Barcelona captain Carles Puyol is still hoping to reach 100 appearances for Spain despite acknowledging he is almost certain to miss this summer's European Championships due to a knee problem. Barcelona announced yesterday that Puyol will undergo an arthroscopy on 12 May after feeling discomfort in his right knee following Saturday's 4-0 defeat of Espanyol and that is set to sideline the centre-back for around six weeks.

Ronaldo celebrates first La Liga title

Cristiano Ronaldo was delighted to win his first La Liga title with Real Madrid following their 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday evening.
Though Ronaldo missed an early penalty in the 12th minute of the game, he later scored in the 50th minute to add to goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Mesut Ozil in the 16th and 20th minute respectively as Madrid ended Barcelona's three-year reign as Spanish champions.
Speaking to AS, Ronaldo said:
"It's my first league here in Spain and I'm very happy. It's mission accomplished and to win the league is great.
"[The players] are all very happy because it gives you a lot of joy to win the league after ten months of battling. Winning the league is very difficult."
Ronaldo has scored 44 league goals this season behind Lionel Messi who tops the score chart with 46 goals.

Barca unleash CL exit anger on Rayo Vallecano


Playing their first match after being eliminated from the Champions League by Chelsea, Barcelona unleashed their Champions League exit anger on their fellow Spanish club Rayo Vallecano by trashing them 7-0 on Sunday.

Guardiola to leave Barca on June 30


Barcelona Coach Pep Guardiola has announced to the president and squad that he will be leaving the club when his present contract ends on June 30.
Guardiola who played for Barcelona in the 90’s before coming back as a coach announced his decision on Friday morning. Afterwards, Pep Guardiola, Sandro Rosell and Andoni Zubizarreta gave a press conference in the Ricard Maxenchs pressroom in the Camp Nou.

All Spanish Europa League final


Two Spanish teams Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid made it through to this seasons Europa League final.
In the second leg of the semi final played on Thursday, Athletic Bilbao defeated Sporting Lisbon 3-1 (4-3 aggregate) while Atletico Madrid beat Valencia 1-0 (5-2 aggregate).

CL: Bayern beat Madrid on pentaly to qualify for final



Bayerm Munich defeated Madrid 3-1 on penalty to qualify for the Champions League final.

The game went into extra time after the match ended 2-1 (3-3 aggregate) in favour of Real Madird. The match was later decided on penalties as both team failed to score in the thirty minutes extra time.

Madrid opened score from the spot just six minutes into the game after Ronaldo converted a penalty.
Cristiano Ronaldo got a brace eight minutes later to make it two for the home side, making it his 10th goal in the Champions league this season.

Gerard Pique discharged from hospital

Gerard Pique who spent the night in the hospital following a collision with Victor Valdes and Didier Drogba on Tuesday’s Champions League match has been discharged.
The Barcelona defender was injured less than twenty minutes into the game and was substituted eight minutes later after he was unable to continue with the match.
A statement from Barcelona confirming his release said;
Gerard Pique has been discharged from the hospital after follow up medical tests proved satisfactory.
Barcelona lost out to Chelsea in the game on 3-2 aggregate after they were held to a 2-2 draw. Chelsea will now play the winner between Real Madrid and Bayern in the final.
