Atletico Madrid wins Europa League title


In the all Spanish Europa finals, Atletico Madrid defeated Athletic Bilbao 3-0 to win the UEFA Europa League trophy at the National Arena in Bucharest on Wednesday.

Falcao increased his goal tally to twelve in the Europa League this season scoring the first two goals for Atletico in the 7th and 34th minute of the game while Diego got the third five minutes to the end of the game.

Falcao's 11th and 12th goals of the tournament not only earned him the top scorer prize ahead of Schalke's Klaas Jan Huntelaar but took his all-time record in the competition to 29 in 29 games.
The trophy now makes it Atletico’s  second in three years

All Spanish Europa League final


Two Spanish teams Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid made it through to this seasons Europa League final.
In the second leg of the semi final played on Thursday, Athletic Bilbao defeated Sporting Lisbon 3-1 (4-3 aggregate) while Atletico Madrid beat Valencia 1-0 (5-2 aggregate).

Europa League semi final round up


Atletico Madrid and Sporting Lisbon defeated their visitors in the first leg of the Europa League semi final to stay at an advantage of moving to the finals.
Atletico Madrid defeated their fellow Spanish side Valencia 4-2, while Sporting Lisbon beat Athletic Bilbao 2-1.

UEFA Europa League Round Up


Three Spanish club made it through to the semi final of the Europa Cup decided today. Valencia, Athletic Bilbao and Atletico Madrid all came from Spain while sporting the other team that qualified is from Portugal.
Athletic Bilbao drew 2-2 with Schalke to qualify on a 6-4 aggregate. Ibai Gomez and Markel Susaeta scored for Athletico while Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scores for Schalke. In the other quater finals played on Thursday, Valencia defeated AZ by 4-0 to qualify (5-2 agg). Mettlist drew 1-1 with Sporting but Sporting will move ahead to the semi final on a 3-2 aggregate. Hannover lost at home to Atletico Madrid by 1-2. This result gives Atletico the semi final ticket with a 4-2 aggregate.
Atletico Madrid will play Hannover while Valencia will tackle Sporting in the semi finals.

Round up of quarter final Europa league first leg

The Europa league quarter final first leg ended with all the homes sides netting in two goals. It was victory for the home sides in all the matches except for the match between Schalke 04 against Athletic Bilbao which ended four goals to two in favor of Athletic. Athletic's Fernando Llorente netted twice while Oscar de Marcos and Iker Muniain got the other two goals. The two goals from Schalke came from Raul.
The other three matches ended with the same score line with the home sides scoring two goals each and the visitors getting only one.
Az Alkmaar beat Valencia by two goals to one, Sporting Lisbon defeated FC Metalist Kharkiv by two goals to one. The match between Atletico Madrid against Hannover also ended two goals to one in favor of Atletico.
The second leg comes up on the 5th of April 2012.
