The tenure of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United has
seen the club go through an era of success and dominance both in England and
Europe, giving him a reputation as one of the most respected and admired
managers in the history of the game.
The Scottish manager has been with Manchester United since
1986 and has won lots of trophies with them; twelve Premier League titles, five
FA Cups, four League Cups, ten Community Shields, two UEFA Champions Leagues,
UEFA Cup Winners Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup, FIFA Club World
Cup.
When Sir Alex Ferguson finally leaves, the speculation is
whether anyone can even fill the vacancy that will be left. So can Jose
Mourinho replace him at Manchester United?
It cannot be doubted that Jose Mourinho who is called the “Special One” by many has the managerial ability to handle the job at Manchester United. Jose Mourinho’s trach record speaks for itself even back then as the manager of Porto. He won a magnificent treble with Porto by winning the UEFA Cup, Portuguese Liga and Cup. In 2004 he also won the Champions League with Porto. These exceptional performances at Porto earned him a move to England as Chelsea’s manager.
In his three full seasons at Chelsea, he won; two Premier League
titles, two League Cups, FA Cup and the Community Shield. Jose Mourinho left
Chelsea after some disagreements with the chairman Roman Abramovich as many
reports believed.
The “Special One” later moved to Italy where he managed
Inter Milan. At Milan, he won two trophies in his first season, but claimed to
be “disappointed” with the start he made. The following season he won a treble
with Inter Milan which included the UEFA Champions League. After winning the
treble with Inter Milan, he moved on to Spain where he is currently the manager
to Real Madrid.
Reports say that Jose wants Real Madrid to be his last “stepping
stone” before moving back to the Premier League after he has achieved his
ambition with Real Madrid.
Though Jose Mourinho is yet to win the Spanish Primera with
Madrid, his team are in a good position to do it this season. With nine matches
left to play they top their closest rival Barcelona with six points. He also
stands a good chance of winning the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid this
season as they are just a step away to qualify for the semi finals.
Manchester’s United legend Bryan Robson believe Jose
Mourinho has the right credentials. The former England captain, speaking at the
Soccerex forum in Manchester said “As far as I am concerned, and from what I
know about Manchester United, they are not considering that at the moment.
“How do you replace Sir Alex Ferguson? It is near enough
impossible. But they are going to have to do that and Mourinho is definitely one
who would be up at the top of the list. His record speaks for itself”.
